I always go with "cool to play with". Actually I don't have a clue which one would be best to start with. But just to be on the safe side if I was you I'd probably go in debt and get both.

I talked with Brian and he told me the public library has a 3D printer that is open to the public. Wow. It looks like the scanner will be first.
